From four distinctive vineyards in Champagne's Marne Valley, vigneron Christophe Baron adheres to a production process he calls ''Champagne de terroir''.

Baron asked Claude and Lydia Bourguignon, world-renowned soil scientists, to study these parcels on the hillsides of Charly-sur-Marne, Crouttes-sur-Marne and Porteron. They found great variability covering all the geological stages found in the Marne Valley. Claude and Lydia declared, “It is a palette and mosaic of soils uniquely suited to his unique approach.”

Pinot Meunier is the traditional grape variety of the Marne Valley, and is the most adapted to this region to highlight and distinguish its richly diverse terroir. For these reasons, Baron has chosen to grow and vinify only Pinot Meunier.

Each parcel is vinified individually, and the wine crafting is as naturally non-interventionist as possible. Both the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeast, in a mix of demi-muids and barrels. The wines are neither fined or filtered, are disgorged with no dosage and are bottled only in magnums.

With a philosophy of “single vineyard, single vintage, single grape and no dosage,” Baron aims to create four unique and distinctive Champagnes, from each of his vineyards.

With Pinot Meunier fruit harvested from old vines, tiny yields and a minimalist approach in the cellar, Champagne Christophe Baron creates wines of great depth, high complexity and intense minerality. The style is vinous, dry and gastronomic. No dosage is added, which allows the terroir to shine through.

This dedication to purity and craft yields serious Champagnes that are highly singular and energetic. The wines offer a remarkable combination of power, structure and transparency, and a creamy finish adds further complexity.
